UCA track wraps SLC Championships

HOUSTON, Texas — The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track team completed their first ever Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday, and tasted a little bit of success. The Bears finished in 11th place with 19 points, finishing just 13 points behind Northwestern State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who tied for ninth. The Sugar Bears ended up in 12th place with no score, but had several individuals finish in the top 15 of their respective events.
Leading the way for the men's team was freshman Donovan Loring, who placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 15.19 meters. Freshmen Simeon Ogboaloh (14.30m, 6th) and Thad Gordon (14.24m, 7th) also scored points in the triple jump.
Sophomore Eric Ware placed sixth in the 60 meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.22 seconds, tying his personal best. Sophomore Drew Conner placed ninth in the 800 meter finals with a time of 1:58.55.
On the women's side, junior Whitney Welch took 23rd in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:14.61.
Both teams will run their final indoor competition of the season on Saturday, Feb. 24 in Sewanee, Tenn.
