UCA track runs at SLC Championships

HOUSTON, Texas — Eight school records were set on Friday, as the University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track teams competed in their first ever Southland Conference Indoor Championships. Five men's records and three women's records were broken on the historic day.

For the Bears, sophomore Eric Ware placed sixth ] in the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 8.22 seconds, breaking his previous record.

Sophomore Drew Conner also set a record in the 800 meter prelims by finishing 10th with a 1:58.39 time. Both Ware and Conner will run in the finals of their respective events on Saturday.

Other men's records that were broken included freshman Raven Fuller in the mile run (4:28.95, 12th place), freshman Thad Gordon in the 400 meters (50.88, 20th) and the team of Danny McBride, Nick Miller, Conner and Fuller in the distance medley relay (10:46.24, 7th).

For the Sugar Bears, freshman Patricia Hampton set a new school mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.05 seconds in the prelims. She placed 14th in the semifinals with a time of 10.56. Junior Shamille Taylor broke her own record with a 7.95 second time in the 60 meters, good for 21st place. Freshman Kayla Daniels also set a record with a leap of 5.10 meters in the long jump, finishing in 17th.

Other top performers for UCA included: junior Lauren Merritt in the mile run (5:27.25, 11th) and sophomore Lori Garside in the long jump (5.10m, 12th).

Central Arkansas will finish the Southland Championships on Saturday.
