CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Bears got a 5-for-6 performance from senior Matt Warren and rode that to a 15-4 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday at UCA Field.

Warren, the designated hitter, was one of five UCA players with two RBI. Senior shortstop Jonathan Ashworth went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, while third baseman Zack Dickson went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI. Tye Throneberry was 2 for 3 and center fielder Scott Cline had two RBI without a hit.

The Bears (8-7), after jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first on Chris Davis’ sacrifice fly, fell behind 3-1 after two innings. But UCA chipped away with a pair of runs in both the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. In the fifth, Warren had an RBI single to left field and Gatlin added a single down the left-field line that scored Craig Nyborg.

In the seventh, Warren led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He eventually scored on Dickson’s single to the pitcher. After ULM loaded the bases, Scott Cline drew a walk for the second run of the inning.

The Bears then broke the game open with an eight-run eighth inning, sending 13 batters to the plate and putting up eight runs on just five hits. Ashworth had a two-run double and Warren added an RBI single to right field. The other runs came in on a pair of fielder’s choices and a fielding error.

Junior Daniel Price got the victory with five innings of work, striking out three and allowing four hits.

ULM third baseman Clark LaBorde and right fielder Greg Manley both were 2 for 4 for the Warhawks (12-5). Reliever Daniel Pourciau got the loss, allowing two earned runs in the fifth.

UCA opens Southland Conference play this weekend at home against Sam Houston State. Friday’s game starts at 2 p.m., with Saturday’s and Sunday’s games beginning at 1.
