Softball swept by Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas —Texas State completed the sweep of Central Arkansas with an 8-0 five-inning win in Southland Conference softball action on Sunday afternoon (March 11). The Bobcats (14-12, 5-4) pitching staff held the Bears (8-16, 0-6) to just two hits in the shutout victory.
TSU first baseman Leah Boatright hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first off of UCA freshman pitcher Jennifer Collins. The Bobcats added three more runs in the second on a RBI-single by right fielder Amy Krueger and a two-run base knock by Boatright.
Two UCA errors in the bottom of the fourth led to the final runs of the game for Texas State.
TSU's Blake Ragan (11-6) gave up one hit and struck out eight batters in four innings of work. Reliever Megan Mikeska gave up one hit in the top of the fifth inning.
Collins (2-3) was responsible for six runs, two walks, five hits and one strikeout in one inning. Junior Lyndsey Harris gave up three hits, one earned run and fanned one in three innings of relief.
Freshmen Keatha Tollett and Mindy Chancey were responsible for the Bears' two hits. Boatright went 2-for-3 with five runs batted in for Texas State. Designate player Karen Taylor was also 2-for-3.
The Bears will travel to Texas-San Antonio to begin a three-game conference series on Saturday, March 17.
