Bears fall twice at BC Classic

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — The University of Central Arkansas lost twice on the final day of the Blues City Classic hosted by Memphis at Greenbrook Park on Sunday. The Bears (6-8) fell to Mississippi Valley State 9-2 and to Southeast Missouri State 11-1 in five innings.

Against MVSU, freshman pitcher Tiffany Swanson and freshman second baseman Catherine Jones hit solo home runs, but the Bears could not overcome being outhit 12-4 by the Devilettes (4-9).

Swanson gave up 12 hits, eight earned runs, five walks and struck out seven in the loss. MVSU's Nikki Stouder struck out five and gave up two runs and four hits.

Against the Redhawks, the Bears were outhit 14-4. Senior left fielder Amy Sperle came up with two doubles and scored UCA's only run.

SEMO hit five home runs off of pitchers Kati Beth Billingsley and Lyndsey Harris. SEMO's Lauren Bradley gave up an unearned run, four hits, two walks and five strikeouts for the win.

UCA freshman Sarah Garcia made the all-tournament team.

The Bears will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face Tennessee State on Wednesday.
