Lecuyer wins tourney

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — University of Central Arkansas senior Christina Lecuyer shot a final-round 69 on Tuesday to win medalist honors at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Spring Classic played at Corpus Christi Country Club.

Lecuyer, a senior from Edmonton, Alberta, shot rounds of 75-71-69 for a 215 total. She won by four strokes over Pamela Ontiveros and Christy Carter of Oral Roberts (219) and Wendy Joyner of Sam Houston (219).

UCA finished 11th overall in the tournament with rounds of 316-308-310 — 934. Sam Houston State won the event with a 892 score, followed by Missouri State (896) and Lamar (906).

The rest of the field included McNeese State (914), Redlands Community College and A&M-CC (915), Southern Illinois and Oral Roberts (918), North Texas (922), Bradley (913), UCA, McLennan CC (940), Texas-San Antonio (948), Texas State (951) and Texas-Pan Am (969).

Following Lecuyer for UCA was Rebecca Sorenson at 79-78-72 — 233 (tied for 37th), Sanna Vihervaara at 80-79-86 — 245 (tied for 67th) and Jessica Ross at 82-80-85 — 247 (tied for 71st). Nicole Forshner shot 82-86-80 — 248 and tied for 76th place.
