Bears falls to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The University of Alabama-Birmingham got a combined one-hitter from pitchers Mitch Kloskowski  and Kyle  Roberson and recorded an 8-0 shutout of the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Friday at Young Memorial Field.

The Bears (5-4), fresh off a three-game sweep of Saint Louis, managed only a single in the eighth inning by Grant Gatlin against the UAB duo. Kloskowski struck out six and walked one, while Roberson struck out three and walked one.

The Blazers (3-6) strung together 12 hits against three UCA pitchers and got five earned runs off starter Daniel Price (0-3). Price walked four and struck out three in 6 1/3 innings.

UAB broke open a scoreless game with a run in the third inning on J.R. Bond’s RBI triple to right field. The Blazers added another single runs in the fourth and sixth innings before taking a 6-0 lead with three runs in the seventh.

Ryan Keedy had an RBI triple, Ryne Lovedahl had an RBI single and Tyler Rollin doubled to left to score the third run.

UAB added two more runs in the eighth when Steven Turner had an RBI triple and Bond followed with an RBI double.

Bond was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI, while Rollin was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI.
