Bears fall to Governors

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Central Arkansas baseball team lost to Austin Peay State 10-2 at Raymond C. Hand Park on Sunday afternoon. The Bears (1-3) were outhit by the Governors (1-0) 15-8 in the loss.

UCA started the game with a solo home run in the top of the first by senior designated hitter Matt Warren. APSU's Ryne Mantooth plated third baseman Tyler Farrar with a single to left field in the bottom of the frame to knot the game 1-1.

Central Arkansas junior first baseman Grant Gatlin led the second inning off with a single and was eventually driven in by senior shortstop Jonathan Ashworth.

The Governors followed with four runs in the second and three runs in the third inning to go up 8-2. APSU also added a run in the fifth and eighth innings.

Warren led the UCA offense by going 3-for-4 with the home run and a double. Mantooth and Farrar had three hits each for the Governors.

Shawn Kelley threw seven innings, giving up six hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts to pick up the win. UCA starter Daniel Price gave up 10 hits, five earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts in three innings.

UCA relievers Jeremy Cloud, Jeremy Boone, Josh Charette and Bobby Pritchett combined to give up five hits, two runs and three strikeouts in five innings.

The Bears will host Arkansas State on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
