Another 8-0 defeat

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — For the second straight day, the Central Arkansas baseball team was shutout by UAB 8-0 on Saturday afternoon at Young Memorial Field.

The Blazers (4-6) outhit the Bears (5-5) 14-4 for the game.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when UAB put together four runs on five hits off of UCA junior starter Matt Whitaker. The Blazers added a fifth run in the seventh on RBI-single by catcher Danny Sawyer. Bear reliever Casey Grisham gave up three more runs in the eighth by surrendering three hits, including a triple to center fielder J.R. Bond.

Senior Craig Nyborg, juniors Kevin Rawls and Chris Davis and sophomore Payton Seelinger each recorded a hit for the Bears.

UAB's Ryan Keedy went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Blazer starter Shay Crawford picked up the win by giving up three hits, two walks and striking out four in 6 2/3 innings. Relievers James Oliver and Grant Addison combined to give up one hit and strike out one in 2 1/3 innings.

Whitaker gave up nine hits, four runs, two walks and struck out six in 5 2/3 innings in the losing effort.

UAB will host the Bears in the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
